The Folkloristic Mechanism: How It Disarms Us

Triggering and creating folk memories. Disinfolklore becomes reality through repetition amplification and wishful thinking. It’s a lie yet is believed in more that ‘what is.’ Truth. What is not illusory. Like Disinfolklore painting Ultra violent invaders as Little Green Men provoking idea of Ukraine as a condescended to land of ‘little people’ and ‘Little Folk.’ Then, because we encounter folklore mainly as children, we associate such stories with being children. This passage identifies the precise mechanism. Calling military invaders “Little Green Men” does three things simultaneously: it infantilises the invasion (making it sound whimsical), it condescends to Ukraine as a land of “little people,” and it activates childhood associations with folklore that disarm adult critical faculties. We do not take fairy-tale characters seriously as threats.
