The Mavki of Ukrainian folklore are water spirits who lure enemies to their doom. The women of Gorenka reclaimed this archetype — naming themselves after mythical temptresses while doing the supremely practical work of camouflage-making. “Making camouflage is our modern-day national craft.” Domestic craft as Counter-Disinfolklore.
