The Social Proof
When I posted this story shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a Twitter / X user commented: “I can relate only too well. My own mother believes TV over me.” Three-thousand-three-hundred other Twitter / X users “liked” that comment and four-thousand-four-hundred people “liked” my initial post. I interpret this as meaning that thousands of us have immediate experience of the power of the Disinfolklore Apparatus to disrupt even the closest relationships that we have. For those whose family members have gone MAGA, anti-vax, pro-Russia or even, for a while in England, full-on Brexit, the power of Disinfolklore to ruin family relationships will sound familiar.
