Folklore Origins

The intellectual lineage of Disinfolklore runs from Herder’s 1777 plea to the ten German tribes, through the Brothers Grimm and Wagner, the Celtic Twilight and Irish Revival, Asbjornsen and Moe’s ur-troll tale, and the anthropological tradition of Frazer and Mauss. Identity is wholly a function of stories — and that insight was eventually turned to darker purposes.
