What Triggered the Recognition

Over the years since 2015 I have learned that many of us perceive aspects of everyday reality through lenses (archetypes) that we unconsciously picked up through encounters with folklore-like stories as children. Professional Disinfolklore designers and propagators often lean-in to this aspect of Indo-Europeans’ cognition and use archetypes we encountered in folklore-borne stories to create engaging trolls. Initially I had thought it was only the similarity between the biosphere reserve where I was posted and the idyllic forest and village settings for many folktales that was responsible for motivating my intuition. I also wondered was it the similarity between folklore and the fantastical stories about mythical events which I knew had never happened that were recounted to me by the Russian army’s Wagner unit soldiers whom I had to negotiate with each day.
