“Manipulates”: Pulating Our Mana

Disinfolklore is also different from previous forms of disinformation and misinformation, because immanent in Disinfolklore is the purposeful use of the folklore-borne archetypes of which our main mode of making sense of the world is composed. Once inside our Inner Minds, Disinfolklore manipulates us (literally: ‘pulates’ (shakes) our ‘mana’) which is the well from which all our moods, motivations, attitudes and intentions flow.

I call such stories “Archetypal Disinfolklore” because immanent in them are these same archetypes as appear in millions of other stories inside the Russian Information Galaxy, with slight variations in monikers, settings, and circumstances — “Neo-Nazis,” “bunch of Junkies,” “hostages,” “Ultra-Nationalists.” Immanent in such Disinfolklore, again with slight variations, almost every time they’re repeated, is an identical archetypal structure: “The entire Ukrainian people are held hostage by their democratically elected leadership and long for liberation by soldiers from a foreign power (Russia).”

“Manipulates” literally means “pulates (shakes) our Mana.” This etymology reveals the mechanism: Disinfolklore’s archetypes shake the energy well from which our Moods, Intentions, Attitudes, and Motivations flow. The same archetypal structure — “Ukrainians long for Russian liberation” — appears in millions of memes with slight variations in surface detail. The implicit archetype is always the same.
