The Generosity Test: A Quick Filter

A primary tool in the Counter Disinfolklore method is what I call our “Incoming Troll Radar.” Looking for the “Mana / Energy in the Meme” is a mantra that reminds us to maintain our Incoming Troll Radar scanning, like virus software on a computer, every sensory input we’re contemplating allowing into our Mind / Mana. We’re scanning for Ungenerosity or Generosity in the messages we are perceiving. To be clear, I am not saying that all acts of Generosity are wise. Rather, that all Ungenerous sentiments immanent in memes we’re trying to assess on-the-fly should be regarded as suspicious. As prima facie Disinfolklore. Authoritarianism and negative manipulations are almost always Ungenerous. So, until you have a moment or a few months to assess whether you agree with some sentiment, applying the Generosity test from the Code of Positive Trolls is a Good Enough means of avoiding falling for Negative Trolls and Disinfolklore.

When you do not have time to apply all six elements of the Code, the first element alone — Generosity — works as a quick filter. “All Ungenerous sentiments… should be regarded as suspicious.” Authoritarianism is almost always ungenerous. This gives you a one-question test: Is this meme generous or ungenerous?
