The Bridge: Where Disinfolklore Was Born

I was in eastern Ukraine on this bridge in this very folklore-like situation, which had structural elements like folklore. Also the whole setting was just folklore about the whole thing. That made me interested in folklore before I realized actually Russia was using stories to troll people into particular attitudes, moods, motivations, and intentions which suited to them.

The origin story told through TER. Standing on a bridge in Russia-occupied eastern Ukraine, the author recognised the folklore-like structure of what was happening around him. That recognition — that Russia was using stories to troll people into particular attitudes, moods, motivations, and intentions — was the moment Disinfolklore was born. The bridge is both literal and metaphorical: the crossing point between naive consumption and analytical perception.
