Manu (India)

Manu is the first human in Indian culture, the mythological founder and first lawgiver. The Laws of Manu (Manusmriti) are the foundational legal text of Indian civilisation. It was while translating the Laws of Manu in 1786 that Sir William Jones discovered the Indo-European language family.

Manu is the *Manu twin — the sacrificer who survives while *Yemos is sacrificed. The M-N sound in Manu connects to Mana, Mind, Moon, Meaning. Manu’s twin Yama becomes the Lord of Death — the first human to die, who opens the path for all who follow.
