Phase 1 — The Opening Phase (2014 – February 2015)

When the Stanitsia Luhanska bridge work began in 2015, the war was already ten months old. But its opening phase — March 2014 through February 2015 — established the archetypal grammar that the subsequent seven years of occupation would rely on.

Founding Acts

March 2014 — Little Green Men in Crimea. Unmarked soldiers seize the Crimean parliament. Putin denies they are Russian. The founding Disinfolklore archetype established.

April 2014 — Girkin in Slovyansk. A Russian reenactor-warlord crosses into Donetsk province, seizes Slovyansk, declares himself “Defence Minister” of the DPR. The Reenactor-Warlord archetype activated.

11 May 2014 — the “referendum.” Armed men hold the Archetypal Fake Election in Luhansk and Donetsk. Fabricated 89% and 96% results. The template for 2022.

2 May 2014 — Odessa Trade Union House. 42 pro-Russian activists die in the fire. The founding martyrology begins its annual liturgy.

17 July 2014 — MH17. The Buk missile strike. 298 killed. The Unfixed Stain archetype born.

24-29 August 2014 — Ilovaisk Massacre. The Russian 31st Guards Air Assault Brigade ambushes retreating Ukrainian troops. 366 killed. The Little Green Men mask slips.

5 September 2014 — Minsk I signed. Ukraine signs the first protocol under military duress, immediately after Ilovaisk. A ceasefire is declared. It does not hold.

14 January – 18 February 2015 — Debaltseve Cauldron. Russia’s proxies encircle and destroy a Ukrainian garrison during the very weeks when Minsk II is being negotiated. 250+ killed.

12 February 2015 — Minsk II signed. The second protocol is signed while Debaltseve is still being closed. The archetypal pattern — Russian force used to coerce Ukrainian diplomatic concession — is locked in.

The Founding-Act Density

What defines this opening phase archetypally is its founding-act density.

Every major Disinfolklore archetype that would dominate the next seven years was test-deployed in these ten months: Little Green Men, Reenactor-Warlord, Fake Election, Cauldron, Broken Corridor, Mother-Maiden, Walk-In, DRG Bogey. Every single one was debuted in 2014-2015 and rehearsed continuously thereafter.

The Archetypal Rhythm Installed

Russian military action precedes Russian diplomatic concession.

Ilovaisk → Minsk I
Debaltseve → Minsk II

The archetypal pattern: use force to extract signature, then accuse Ukraine of violating the signature. This rhythm was installed in 2014-2015 and would repeat for seven years.

The Script Written

The phase closed with the Minsk II signature on 12 February 2015. What followed was the archetypal frozen period — not a peace, but a state of continuous low-intensity Disinfolklore warfare.

The opening had written the script. The subsequent phases merely performed it.

The Counter

Remember the sequence. Every Russian signature was extracted under fire. Every ceasefire was a fiction. Every Minsk round was negotiated over corpses.

Name the dates. Count the deaths. The archetypal pattern is legible at the scale of months.
